Q1 What is Diabetes Regenerative Medicine?
By administering stem cells derived from adipocyte, restoration of functionalities of pancreatic islet β cells that were damaged or have become dysfunctional as a result of diabetic conditions will be achieved. Inflammation that is caused by diabetes will also be controlled by substances secreted from stem cells derived from adipocyte. All these would lead to effective improvements to your conditions.

Q2 How much adipocyte is collected for the stem cell treatment?
About 5-10mg of tissue will be collected.

Q3 How long will the operation last?
Local anesthesia is conducted and 5-10 mg of tissue is collected from the lower abdomen of the patient. This operation lasts for approximately 10 to 30 minutes.

Q4 Can I take a bath after the surgery?
On the day of the surgery you may use the shower only. From the second day onwards, you may soak in your bath tub.

Q5 Are there any side effects or risks of cancer caused by the administration of stem cells?
Mesenchymal stem cells are cells with a low risk of canceration. Tumorigenicity has been absent in oncogenic tests using immunodeficient mice. There are no side effects or rejections as the stem cells are collected from the patient’s body. However, there still remains a small risk of internal hemorrhage and inflammatory symptoms.

Q6 How much time does it take from the collection of adipocyte to the administration of cells?
Although it varies from person to person, cell count will grow to adequate size within 4 to 6 weeks. Therefore, it will be ready for administration within a month or so.

Q7 Are there cases where you cannot undergo the regenerative treatment?
You will not be able to receive this treatment if an infectious disease is found in the results of your preoperative evaluation. Those who have abnormality in coagulation (blood’s ability to clot) also cannot receive the treatment. There are also cases where the treatment is not available because of patient’s allergic reactions to the anesthetic agent or to substances that are used in the manufacturing process of specialized cell derivatives.

Q8 Are there age restrictions?
The eligibility of the treatment is between 20 to 80 years of age.
This treatment targets patients who have passed the screening of our doctor who will perform the regenerative medical process.

Q9 Is the administration of cells really effective? How persistent is it?
You should be able to feel its effects. However, as the symptoms differ from one patient to the other, and so do the expected effects, the sense of its effectiveness may differ from person to person. Prior to the treatment, your doctor will explain the process of this treatment, its costs and other factors for you to consider. You will have to weigh the cost and benefit, agree to the details we provide and give your consent for us to carry out the treatment.

Q11Will the special contract for Advanced Medical Care life insurance cover?
Advanced Medical Care is a category of treatment designated by decided by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare which uses that uses advanced medical technology. Regenerative medicine using mesenchymal stem cells derived from adipocyte has not yet been approved as advanced medical care. Therefore, no special contract of life insurance is applicable.
